First Annual NYC Vegetarian Food Festival Coming In April

We are beyond thrilled to announce that New York City’s FIRST EVER Vegetarian Food Festival starts tomorrow in Chelsea! On April 3, the Altman Building will host the first annual New York City Vegetarian Food Festival, a long-overdue gathering of vegetarian food companies, restaurants, and health and wellness vendors. While that’s exciting in itself, it gets better — the entire event is free and the festival’s organizers are promising plenty of free vegan food all day! Join Inhabitat at the event as we celebrate the deliciousness of vegetarian food (you’ll have to fight us for the free vegan ice cream!)

Created by Sarah Gross, founder of Rescue Chocolate, and Nira Paliwoda, a foodie and event planner, the festival will also have world-class speakers, live music, and food contests. The deadline for vendor sign-up is March 1, but the festival’s website indicates that the city’s top vegetarian and vegan restaurants will be in attendance, including The V-Spot, Raw Ice Cream Company, Our Hen House, and Verite Catering. A raffle will benefit the Empty Cages Collective and nonprofit groups like Mercy for Animals will hand out literature and vegetarian starter kits. Speakers will focus on topics like how to live more sustainably, the horrors of factory farms, nutrition and health diet tips, and the best places to eat in NYC.

Since 2008, New Yorkers have celebrated the vegetarian life during the annual Veggie Parade, but Gross and Paliwoda felt that a day-long festival was in order. They told Vegan Activist that starting the event was a no-brainer. “Other major cities have been having these kinds of things for years, notably Boston. New York is already so vegetarian and vegan-friendly with many great restaurants and grocery stores that cater to the vegetarian and vegan communities,” they said. “So a festival highlighting the products and vendors was the missing piece of the puzzle. We can envision it becoming one of the year’s most beloved festivals and the top vegetarian event in the country.”
We’ll be there — will you?
