Gorgeous Energy-Absorbing Trap Light Never Needs to be Plugged In

Today Gionata Gatto and Mike Thompson unveiled a gorgeous new pendant lamp at the Milan Furniture Fair that is completely powered by light energy absorbed from ambient sources. Dubbed the “Trap Light”, the cord-and battery-free lamp utilizes special photoluminescent pigments to scavenge “waste energy” from surrounding light sources such as CFL and LED bulbs. At night, the lamp springs to life with a soft, ambient glow.

The body of each lamp has been fromed using the Murano glass blowing technique. The close, hands-on approach allows the designers to embed photoluminescent pigments directly into the glass body of the lamp with ease.

If you’re in Milan this week, be sure to swing by the Spazio Rossana Orlandi to get a first-hand look at this stunning design.
